Event Recap: Puma Archive Uncovered

Last September 18, Puma had its event PUMA ARCHIVE: UNCOVERED over at Mag:Net BHS. I’ve been promoting the event a couple of times before the actual event. Drip, Up Dharma Down and Pupil alone were reasons to check the event out. Mag:Net was packed and everybody enjoyed bringing the old to the new. Check out the pictures below. Nike Did It. Again.

Yes, Nike did it. Again. With the public knowing there were only 259 pairs available of the Trainer 1s to be had beginning 9:25 pm, Bonifacio High Street was 500+ deep in heads and MP fans. Despite the rain.

But that’s what it’s all about. That’s the sneaker game for you. Camping out, waiting in line (in the rain), starving your ass off, and unfortunately, not showering for days, are just some of the things people do to get their hands on such coveted pairs.

The MP Pack launch this time around went by much better than the last MP release (5/1/09). The numbering system helped (but not against the dreaded resellers) and made things much more manageable. The MP launch the last time around left a couple hundred MP fans irked and annoyed with the set up. Sneakerheads were prepared, but the general public, especially the hordes of Manny Pacquiao fans, weren’t. I’m sure casual fans never expected such a frenzy the last time around. This time, a numbering system was implemented. Yes, there were lines still (and you still had to camp out for one) but at least people more or less knew what they were getting themselves into.

The first person in line, a mother (along with her family toting numbers 1-5, if I’m not mistaken) was there as early as Wednesday AM for a stub that was going to be distributed a good 24 hours after(imagine that, more than 24 hours in line for a flimsy sheet dictating your sneaker fate). She came prepared, with bottles of water, food and such just to get that no.1 stub. So when she marched into the glowing store, everybody applauded and congratulated her (and her fam) for being dedicated to MP and the Swoosh. So after the initial purchase, we went through the ordeal. Numbers were being called out, lines were forming, and rain was pouring. People were patiently waiting in line for their number to be called. A long and lengthy process, but it was organized. My friends were toting stubs in the mid-100s and weren’t experiencing any panic or anxiety attacks. They were quite confident that by the end of the night, they were more or less assured of a pair and a couple of Tees.

I didn’t have the energy to stay on ’til the end but this launch is really one for the books. Kudos to Nike and to everybody who made this event a huge success. It was a great evening to share sneaker stories, bopping your head to the timeless beats, and just be in the midst of something legendary. I know I’ve been throwing the term around quite loosely lately, but it’s been crazy. I believe 2009 is a landmark year for sneaker culture in the RP. From the multiple Kobe IV drops, the Yeezys, the SB accounts, new sneaker stores sprouting all over, a local sneaker mag (Clavel) and now the MP Trainer 1s, the local sneaker (and streetwear) culture is growing at an amazing rate. With all this happening and so much more to look forward to, I believe you can now mark the Philippines as a destination for sneakerheads and the culture.

Manny Fever All Over Again

I drove by Nike Fort last night to check out if people were in line for the elusive stub to purchase the Lights Out pack. and man were people out! It was raining hard but heads and other people (otherwise, hakot) were umbrella’d patiently waiting for 12nn to arrive.

This morning, I passed by again to see if the line swelled. And it did. Some friends drove to High Street as early as 6am today to hopefully be within the magic number (259, that is). I sized up the crowd and there were about 100+ in the area. Well, in a couple of hours, they’ll be releasing the “Golden Ticket” (or in this case, the ticket to the glowing shoe). Hopefully, MP fans get a chance to get the hot item tomorrow.

So… excited for the MP drop this Friday? Word is that you have to get a stub to be able to purchase the shoe/tee. So drop by tomorrow or Friday am and get one. This way, we all don’t have to line up.

Closer Look: "Lights Out " Air Trainer PE (Manny Pacquiao)

After releasing some photos of the shoe and the Tee, and you’re still not convinced for the drop this Friday, check this out. Nike does it again with the attention to detail for the Lights Out MP Trainer 1s. I have to apologize about the Glow in the Dark shots as my lens can’t capture the greatness.

Anyways, on to the Lights Out Pack. From the box, the paper, the laces (and extra laces), the speckled outsole, the glow in the dark contrast stitching, the MP tag, and the overall look and feel of the shoe- it’s Legen-wait for it-dary! Once my eyes saw the box it happened again. Cold Sweat. Goose bumps. To be a living, walking cliche, I was like a kid in a candy store.

If you were still on the fence about these Trainer 1s, I hope these photos will make you jump on it. Get in line. Own it. Cop it.

Hoop for Life

Its a Charity Fundraiser basketball game featuring PBA superstars like Asi Taulava, Mark Cardona, Slam Dunk Champion Kelly Williams, Jimmy Alapag, Mark “the Spark” Caguioa, Sol Mercado, Nic Belasco, Jared Dillinger and rookie of the year Gabe Norwood with a special appearance by Boxing champion Nonito Donaire Jr.

Proceeds will benefit real life foundation. The group is focused on building a community center in pasig which will include health care and will engage in feeding programs and the like.

Ticket prices are very affordable for this one night all star game:

Here’re a couple more pairs worth your hard earned dough for the month of September. People over at Nike mentioned that the drops are getting crazier and crazier by month. Ultimately, let’s all watch out for Holiday 09. For now, they are worth rockin’. To all the real heads out there, I decided not to take pics of the Footscapes and the Current 90 Huaraches so that we’ll only be the ones ownin’ the real ish.

Air Force 1 ’07 Premium (Women’s)

Yup, this is for the ladies. Black patent leather, polka dots, and a white leather swoosh to contrast. What’s not to like?

“The Denim” Nike Blazer Mid Premium

Here’s another Premium Blazer hitting our shores. I just hope no one does a denim-on-denim outfit. If you must, please refrain heading to places I frequent. Or else you will get a verbal beating. Otherwise, it’s cool. Feel free to roam the world with these Blazers.

Nike Terminator Hi Premium Selvage Denim

Ok, so it is a trend going around like the plague. These aren’t bad either. The mix of different denim definitely gives the shoe some character. I was never fond of the Terminator’s shape, choosing the Dunk over these. The Nike pull tab as the heel is a nice touch and so is the leather on the toe cap.

Air Jordan 7 DMP 60+ Pack

Yes, this is the 3rd DMP released for the year. Ofcourse, these commemorate Jordan’s 60+ games. The Boston/Chicago one was for the 1s, and these 7s were to commemorate the game against the Magic wherein he scored 64. 1.2 points per minute. Crazy, I tells ya. I was never a fan of the 7s thus I would leave them on the shelf, but Jordanaires, feel free to gobble these up. There are still a couple of Raging Bull DMPs available at BHS.

Nike Air Thread Women’s Low

I really don’t know why I took a picture of these. I guess it just looked different from the rest of Nike’s other trainers. It’s for the B-girl in you!

We all know what these are. I just want everyone to know that they’re also available here at BHS. The biggest drop ofcourse, is this Friday. Don’t camp out!
